Wishing for a Wave

On the eve of Super Tuesday, I'm hoping for a tidal wave. I'm secretly praying for a seismic event of national proportions - a political upheaval across America. And when we wake up the day after Super Tuesday and look around, I'm hoping we see Barack Obama at the epicenter. This country desperately needs that kind of day tomorrow.

Two years ago, I became intrigued by the junior senator from Illinois. I picked up a copy of "The Audacity of Hope" and read it cover to cover. Right there, I knew this man is something special, something genuine; a product of the American Dream that has framed him in ways that I believe make him truly unique - and oh so overdue. On the night of his victory in Iowa last month, my feelings were strengthened further as I listened to his passionate speech of inclusion, of vision, of hope for a united America that was powerfully reminiscent of Dr. Martin Luther King. I was unexpectedly moved to tears - and moved (the following day) to re-register as an Independent so that I could cast a vote for Barack on Super Tuesday.

If you're registered to vote, please do so tomorrow. If you're registered Independent, remember that in California you can vote the Democratic ticket, if you wish. But regardless of party affiliation, I urge you to listen carefully to Barack in the days and weeks ahead. See if his message resonates in your heart, for I believe he has already changed the nature of debate in this country; regardless of the tally in the ballot boxes, he's already adjusted the political dialog; he's already motivated the apathetic and invigorated the disinterested. I, for one, hope he continues all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
